About Serene Kalme
Serene Kalme is a figurative and abstract artist based between Accra and Montreal. Rooted in her experience as a third-culture kid, her work is deeply personal and introspective. Raised in Accra with a French education and Lebanese heritage, Serene grew up navigating multiple cultural identities. Art became her way of understanding the many facets of self that emerged from this layered upbringing.
Her practice explores themes of identity, emotion, and belonging. She is particularly drawn to the face as a central subject, viewing it as a mirror of individuality. This figurative focus is complemented by abstract composition, where patterns and sharp lines come into play. Her work invites the viewer into a vulnerable space shaped by colours and personal reflection.
Working across different mediums allows her to stay experimental. Each piece contributes to her ongoing journey to understand the complexities of identity in a diverse world. Her work brings personality and warmth into any space, offering vibrant statements that echo within.
